On Thursday, November 24th, 2017, the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association celebrated the achievements of outstanding individuals across the province for their contributions to high school athletics, and a school for their involvement in Special Olympics Unified Sports.

The Zone Awards of Merit are presented annually to one individual from each zone to recognize their significant impact on high school sport. Recipients of this award are nominated by Zone Secretaries, in consultation with members of their zone.

The Unified School Award is presented annually at the Special Olympics Alberta Awards Luncheon to celebrate a high school that demonstrates the inclusive spirit of Unified Sports.

The Lorne Wood Award recognizes school administrators who actively model, support, and promote sportsmanship in their school’s athletic program.

We would like to to extend our gratitude and congratulations once again to the recipients of the Zone Awards of Merit and the Lorne Wood award this year. We deeply appreciate all of your work and your immeasureable contributions to your school communities; impacting countless student-athletes, coaches, and other members of your community.
