Coach Education and Equipment Available for Students with Physical Disabilities:
The ASAA has received two seperate grants to support students who qualify to compete in wheelchair and seated events at Track & Field Provincial Championships. Please note that even if student does not typically use a wheelchair, they may still qualify for wheelchair and seated events.
Equipment that may be borrowed to train and compete with includes:
- Racing wheelchairs
- Racing wheelchair gloves
- Indoor rollers for the racing chairs
- Throwing frames
All equipment is free of cost to borrow. Students must provide their own helmet when using racing equipment.
Please note that some equipment is still being shipped and may not be available until the end of March. Equipment is available at a first-come-first-serve basis and must be shared at the Provincial Championship meet.
To assist students and coaches in learning how to use the equipment and deveop a safe and effective training plan, the ASAA can pay for a Para coach to visit your school. Priority for equipment use will go to students in rural communities who do not have easy access to a training centre and suitable equipment.
Thank-you to the grants we have received through the Makadiff Grassroutes Community Innovation Challenge and the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charity.
