The ASAA would like to congratulate all of the inductees into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum this year. There are countless athletic opportunities that would not be available today without these spirited teams and individuals leading the charge for improved sport and recreation in our province.

This year, there is one inductee who has been especially impactful to the ASAA. A true leader and visionary, Dr.Herbert McLachlin was one of the founders the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association in 1956 and was an official at the first ASAA Provincial Championship in the sport of basketball in Calgary that year. This makes it a special honour for the ASAA to hear the announcement that Dr. McLachlin will be inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum as a Builder in the sport of Basketball.

Dr. McLachlin was heavily involved in sport, recreation, and various other organizations throughout his life, including founding the Edmonton and the Alberta Basketball Officials Association, serving as President on the Canadian Basketball Officials Association, was the second Dean of Physical Activity and Recreation at the University of Alberta (1975-1981), and a Board Member for both the 1978 Commonwealth Games and the 1983 Universiade. Dr. McLachlin was also inducted into the ASAA Hall of Fame in 2006 as both a Founder and an Official and has received several other awards including the Queens Jubilee Gold Medal and other inductions such as to the University of Alberta Sports Wall of Fame.

For his immeasurable impact in sport, Dr. McLachlin will be posthumously inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum on May 26th. A full list of inductees for this year and more information about the banquet can be found on the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame & Museum Website.

Congratulations to all inductees and thank-you for your many contributions in all aspects of sport.
