Yearbook Cover Contest Begins

The ASAA is looking for its next cover art for the upcoming 2020-2021 Provincial yearbook.

The Alberta School’s Athletic Association (ASAA) oversee the following 12 sports and Unified Sports events for all high schools in Alberta. These include: basketball, volleyball, team handball, badminton, curling, wrestling, football, cross country, golf, track & field, cheerleading, rugby, Unified bocce, Unified bean bag toss.

Updated SPAR Guidance

The new SPAR Guidance to support CMOH Order 02-2021 is now posted. Included are key restrictions set out for Step 1 of the Government of Alberta “Path Forward” plan.

Saturday, Feb 6th GoA COVID Update

The ASAA is aware of the Feb. 6 announcement from Dr. Hinshaw made online with regard to the easing of restrictions and potential opening of youth sport in Alberta for up to 10 participants, which has changed from our memo on Feb. 4. We are currently seeking clarification from Government of Alberta officials and will release a detailed statement early in the week starting Feb 8.

Memo: GoA Enhanced Measures, Feb 4, 2021

Dear ASAA Member Schools:

School sport TEAM practices and/or any form of competition in Alberta are NOT permitted under Step 1 of “The Path Forward” public health measures from the Government of Alberta (GoA). This applies to both team and individual sports.

On Friday, January 29, 2021, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney gave a news conference. During that news conference, he said the following in relation to schools:

Cancellation of ASAA Basketball Provincial Championships

On November 20th, the ASAA Executive Committee, with the support of a majority of the ASAA Zones, approved a modified schedule for 2020/21 ASAA provincial championship dates. Built into that schedule were assessment dates by which the Zones empower the ASAA Executive Committee to determine, based on current circumstances, whether or not running a provincial championship in each sport is viable.
