On April 21, 2021, School Sport Canada launched the new eLearning module “Coaching School Sport: Redefining Winning”.

Official Launch of Coaching School Sport: Redefining Winning

The new course replacing “Fundamentals of Coaching” is now available! Today, School Sport Canada (SSC) is pleased to launch a new eLearning resource that seeks to reduce barriers to sport participation by shedding light on the aspects of effective teaching and learning. Coaching School Sport: Redefining Winning is designed for the interscholastic school coach and reflects core competencies promoted through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

Launch of Coaching School Sport: Redefining Winning

Today, School Sport Canada (SSC) is pleased to launch a new eLearning resource that seeks to reduce barriers to sport participation by shedding light on the aspects of effective teaching and learning. Coaching School Sport: Redefining Winning is designed for the interscholastic school coach and reflects core competencies promoted through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). With the support of the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), the new eLearning module is the first designed specifically for all school coaches in Canada.

Football Alberta Scholarship

Football Alberta is once again offering scholarships for Graduating Grade 12’s who will be playing post-secondary for an Alberta based elite team (i.e. Colts, Dinos, Golden Bears, Huskies, Wildcats, WWCFL Teams) this fall. There are five that will be available worth $2000/each. They are available to all Grade 12 players in the province regardless of whether they were able to go on-field last fall or not. Please read the attachments for specific eligibility and feel free to pass it along to any candidate from your program you feel is worthy of consideration.

Development of a Life Skills Self-Assessment Tool for Coaches

The ASAA, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Ottawa, have developed a life skills self-assessment tool for coaches, based on research conducted with ASAA coaches . This tool is designed to guide you through the life skills teaching process, allowing you to appraise the extent to which you believe you are intentionally teaching life skills through sport.

Cancellation of Spring Provincial Championships Memo

Dear ASAA Member Schools:

On November 20th, the ASAA Executive Committee, with the support of a majority of the ASAA Zones, approved a modified schedule for 2020/21 ASAA provincial championship dates. Built into that schedule were assessment dates by which the Zones empower the ASAA Executive Committee to determine, based on current circumstances, whether or not running a provincial championship in each sport is viable.

Transfer policy interpretation after 12-months of no participation Memo

Dear ASAA Member Schools:

The ASAA office has received several inquiries from members who are seeking additional clarification on how the pandemic will impact student athletic eligibility. The purpose of this memo is to clarify ASAA transfer policy intent. The following excerpt is found in Section IV - Eligibility, 11. Transfer Policy, B., i., page 49 (2021-21 policy handbook):
