Pay It Forward Scholarship

History

Pay It Forward Loonie Fee: Each provincial championship will charge an additional $1 for each participating student and remit those funds to the ASAA office after the championship. 100% of funds will be directed into an ASAA scholarship fund to recognize student athletes who give back to their schools and communities by either coaching or officiating in school or community sport.

Information

Available for school aged students who contribute their time to coaching and officiating in either the school or community.
We want to reward those students who “give back”. Sometimes opportunities present in the community, not the school.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be a current grade 12 high school student scheduled to graduate the same year as the application submission. For Covid-19 Pandemic years - Ajudication Committees are aware of the lack of opportunities for participation and volunteering because of guideline restrictions. Please note any pandemic years in your application that would prevent you from being involved in that grade year. Below is a list of the criteria;

  • The student must be in good standing at their school; and
  • The student must demonstrate their involvement in non Covid-19 impacted years as a volunteer for any grade 10, 11 and 12 year, in either ASAA or community sports. *Applications will be accepted for students even if no volunteering was availble for all three years, (10, 11, 12) due to Covid restictions. In this instance please discuss past or future plans you have to volunteer. This may include involvement through roles such as:
    • Coach, Assistant Coach;
    • Official; or
    • Administrative duties such as statistician, team manager, score keeping, video technician, publications, media coverage, etc.

Submission Requirements

Completion of the official online application form submitted on the ASAA website;

  • A minimum of (1) letter of recommendation from the school or community administrator;
  • A minimum of (1) letter of confirmation from the school or community association describing the applicants volunteer experience and duties or future plans due to limited or no opportunities caused by Covid-19 restrictions;
  • A head shot of the applicant; and
  • A picture or video clip of the applicants’ volunteer efforts (optional).
