Memo: GoA Enhanced Measures, Feb 4, 2021

Dear ASAA Member Schools:

School sport TEAM practices and/or any form of competition in Alberta are NOT permitted under Step 1 of “The Path Forward” public health measures from the Government of Alberta (GoA). This applies to both team and individual sports.

On Friday, January 29, 2021, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney gave a news conference. During that news conference, he said the following in relation to schools:

Cancellation of ASAA Basketball Provincial Championships

On November 20th, the ASAA Executive Committee, with the support of a majority of the ASAA Zones, approved a modified schedule for 2020/21 ASAA provincial championship dates. Built into that schedule were assessment dates by which the Zones empower the ASAA Executive Committee to determine, based on current circumstances, whether or not running a provincial championship in each sport is viable.
